Idaho State University (ISU) sports writer Joe Nye is leaving the paper he started in 1993.
The Associated Press first reported the news.
A university spokeswoman confirmed the news on Thursday and said it would not comment further.
Nye, who wrote a column for the paper in 1993 and has been a contributor since 2013, has been at ISU since 1994.
The news comes after the Sun-Bulletin newspaper of the Idaho Independent published a scathing review of Nye’s columns in 2017.
The review noted Nye often “frequently, with great passion, deride and insult members of the Sun Banner, a community of journalists, academics and the general public who are devoted to our profession, to our school, to the state and the nation.”
The review said Nye was “more interested in his own notoriety than helping the paper become a bastion of academic integrity and journalism.”
A university spokesman told the Associated Press that Nye has agreed to leave the paper.
