Los Angeles Lakers forward Kobe Bryant told ESPN that he has never been more “embarrassed” of himself, but he said he believes he is “the greatest of them all.”
Bryant, who has been in the league since 1996, said his teammates always push him to be the best he can be.
He said that, when he was younger, he was “a little more hesitant, but when you’re an athlete, you have to be very confident.”
He said he “wouldn’t have been the greatest” if he was not “always striving to be better.”
He also said that he thinks he is the greatest of the “greats.”
“I think I’m the greatest.
I think I’ve been the best player in the history of this league.
I’m a great player.
I feel that,” Bryant said.
Bryants comments came as he was asked about his career stats, which he has always cited as his greatest achievement.
“I don’t have a stat book, but I know the most I ever did in my career was 17,000 points,” Bryant told reporters.
“That’s my career.
I have never been in any other position of leadership and that’s why I feel like I’m so proud to be one of the greats.
That’s my number one goal in life.
I am so proud of my career and my career has been amazing.”
Byrants first career scoring title came in 1993 with the Portland Trail Blazers.
He had 27 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against the Chicago Bulls in the 1993 Western Conference finals.
The next season, he averaged 18.6 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 49.6 percent from the field.
Bryant won the MVP in 1994 and again in 1995 with the Lakers.
Bryant averaged 18 points and 12.5 rebounds in 1997-98 with the Los Angeles Clippers.
In 2008-09, he won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award, and the following season he won back-to-back MVP awards, in 2010 and 2011.
Brys career-best in scoring came in 2012-13 with the Golden State Warriors, when Bryant had a career year averaging 18.5 points and 13.1 rebounds.
He was also named NBA MVP.
Byrans greatest season was 2011-12 with the New York Knicks.
He averaged 23.8 points and 10.5 assists while shooting 54.3 percent from 3-point range.
