The Dallas business newspaper has a lot to live up to.
It’s got the best circulation in the city, and it has some of the best editors in the business.
It’s one of the most influential newspapers in the metroplex.
But what do its editors have to say about how they see the city and its leaders?
We sat down with the top editors at the Dallas Business Journal, including editor-in-chief John Wojcicki, to hear their thoughts on the city’s business environment, and the importance of community in the newspaper’s operations.
John Wojcik: How much do you know about the DFW business?JW: Well, I mean, I’ve been around Dallas for 25 years.
I have worked here for over 30 years.
And, you know, it’s a great city, I just think that people have to realize that Dallas is a great place to be.
And it’s the reason that I think that I’m able to do what I do.
And I’m proud to be part of this city.
I just can’t imagine doing anything else.
But it’s important that we’re trying to do the right thing.
So, you’re seeing a lot of really positive changes in the community, you see a lot more positive change in the Dallas business climate.
And that’s something that I really look forward to.JW : And the Dallas Tribune has a very, very diverse staff.
But, in general, what do you think are some of your biggest challenges when it comes to community involvement?JL: The thing that I want to be most honest about is the community is so strong.
I don’t think that it’s ever been stronger.
And it’s so much more than just one person.
You know, a lot people can contribute to the community.
And the Denton community is very, really strong.
And so, I think it’s really important that I do a lot on the front lines.
And on the other side of that is also the D&C, the Darrick Daughters, the people that are trying to change this community and the way they want to do it.JL : And what about Dallas is in a bad spot right now?JJ: Well in terms of the D.C. area, I don.t know, there’s no one that is in the leadership position that we can point to.
And frankly, you have to really look at where we’re at and what we need to do in terms that we really are just really working to create a more inclusive environment.
And I think I just really want to make sure that we all work together.JJ : I know there are some people in D.E.
C who feel that they’re being left out, and they’ve got a lot, a long way to go.
But how do you make sure they’re doing their part?JH: Well I think one of my big things is I think you have a lot that we should all do to create this environment that is just welcoming, and welcoming to everyone.
And not just the ones that have a vested interest, but those that just want to work and create jobs and contribute to their communities.
And we’re really trying to make that happen.
J: And then you have the business community, too.
I think a lot businesses are looking for ways to take advantage of this kind of a city.
But what are some ways that they can do that that really can make a difference in the people’s lives?
J: I think what I think is really important for people to realize is that Dallas has been a great opportunity for all of us.
And if you look at the way we’ve created the jobs, we’ve taken advantage of that.
And really, it really is just about making sure that everybody has an opportunity to be able to get their foot in the door, and that everyone has a chance to succeed.
And there’s not really a lot else you can do to really help people get a foot in that door.JH : That’s why, you can’t just say, you need to create jobs.
We’ve got to do all of these other things.
We have to be really open and really welcoming and make sure everybody is able to be a part of the community and have an opportunity, whether it’s their family or their business.JB: So, it just takes time.
I mean we’ve got so much work to do.
But we just have to keep working at it, and we’re doing it.
