— PENACO, Fla.– A dog with a rare allergy to a fungal fungus was put down Thursday, and a spokesman for the city of Pensacola confirmed the animal had been euthanized.
City officials said the dog was named P.J. in honor of a longtime friend of the city’s Animal Care and Control Department, who was diagnosed with penicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in January.
P.j. was the first dog to be diagnosed with the bacteria.
A P. j. from Pensacolita, Florida, was euthanizing Thursday.
He was the second dog to have his health tested for the bacterial infection.
